Meet Oral Surgeon Dr. Lee
Mason Y. Lee, DDS, MD, is a dual degree Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon and has been serving Marin County residents since 2001. He holds an active license to practice dentistry and medicine in the State of California and Washington, and is currently on staff and has privileges at Novato Community Hospital, Kaiser Medical Center-San Rafael, and Marin General Hospital.
Dr. Lee was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. He remained in the Midwest to attend college at Washington University in St. Louis where he studied Chemical Engineering. After completing his undergraduate education, he returned home to Chicago to accept a full 4 year scholarship to attend the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Dentistry. During his tenure in dental school, he performed research in “Inflammatory Cell Mediators” and their effects in oral surgical infections. He was also active in the Christian Medical and Dental Society (CMDS) where he helped to organize trips to Mexico to perform Oral Surgery for the indigent population of rural Mexico. Immediately after completing dental school and finding his calling in Oral and Maxillofacial surgery, he was accepted into the University of California in San Francisco’s (UCSF) dual degree MD/Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Program. During this time, Dr. Lee returned to medical school and obtained his medical degree and then completed an R-2 year of General Surgery residency at UCSF. Dr. Lee then completed his Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency as a Senior Resident and then Chief Resident in 2000 and 2001, respectively.
Since completing his surgical training, he entered private practice with John Johnson, DDS in Marin County and helped establish offices in San Rafael and Mill Valley, CA. Dr. Lee is an active member of the local and national Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. He is also a member of the American Dental Association and the American Medical Association. He holds an active license to practice dentistry and medicine in the State of California and Washington. He is currently on staff and has privileges at Novato Community Hospital, Kaiser Medical Center-San Rafael, and Marin General Hospital. Dr. Lee also holds an active Dental Board of California General Anesthesia permit. With this permit he is able to provide office based deep sedation and general anesthesia for oral surgical procedures. He is also a General Anesthesia evaluator in the state of California. In this role, he helps to evaluate and approve other offices and practitioners who want to obtain a General anesthesia permit. Dr. Lee is also certified in Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and is a CPR-instructor for the Marin County Dental Society.
He has a particular interest in dental implants and the reconstruction of the oral cavity with bone grafting and augmentation techniques prior to implant rehabilitation. He works closely with many Marin County dentists to complete an individual implant treatment plan for each patient. He is an active member in the following implant organizations: American Academy of Implant Dentistry (AAID), Academy of Osseointegration (AO), and the International Congress of Oral Implantologists (ICOI).
